EAST PROVIDENCE - John W. Richardson, Jr., 92, CEO of New England Linen Supply, Pawtucket, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Mary J. (Canning) Richardson for sixty-four years. Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late John W. Richardson, Sr. and Ethel N. (Anderson) Richardson, he resided in Rumford since 1947. Mr. Richardson served as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, he was presented the Bronze Star for heroic action by Major General Leonard F. Wing. He graduated from Moses Brown and studied accounting and bookkeeping at Bentley College in Massachusetts. Mr. Richardson traveled extensively in Europe; summered in Barnstable, Massachusetts for many years; enjoyed boating on the Barrington Bay and was a member of the Hazards Beach Club, Newport for over 50 years. He was a member of the To Kalon Club, Pawtucket; Women & Infants Corporation; Memorial Hospital of RI Corporation; Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the Wannamoisett Country Club. He was a benefactor of the Pawtucket Boys and Girls Club; Edward J. Hayden Public Library, Cumberland and a major contributor to the Children’s Museum. In 1977 he was presented with the RI Jaycees Award for consistent and unwavering support.
Besides his wife he leaves four beloved sons, John W. Richardson, III of Barrington, Philip M. Richardson, Neil T. Richardson both of North Attleboro and Gary F. Richardson of Barrington; nine beloved grandchildren, Kelley A., Jenna M., Melanie B., Katie E., Troy W., Ian G., Trevor A., Lyle J. and Dana M. Richardson. He was the brother of the late Merrill E. Richardson.
Services are private followed by interment at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.
