Joaquim H. Sousa
CUMBERLAND - Joaquim H. Sousa, 87, a longtime former Cumberland resident, passed away Friday at the Eastgate Nursing Center, East Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Luciana (Lemos) Sousa. "Grandpa" loved and was devoted
to his family, especially enjoying his years in retirement spending time with his grandchildren and great grandson.
Born in Ribamondego, Portugal, he was the son of the late Aurora Amaral. He raised his family and resided in Cumberland where he was active in the local Portuguese community as a past officer of the Uniao Portuguesa Beneficente, Clube Juventude Lusitana, and Sporting Clube de Portugal. He was employed as an extruder by the Atlas Cable Co., South Attleboro, for 40 years until his retirement.
He leaves three children, Anthony Sousa of South Kingstown, Elizabeth Keegan of Cumberland, and Suzanne DeAngelis of Barrington. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Bethany Sousa, Brian Sousa, Erik DeAngelis, Kyle DeAngelis, Thomas DeAngelis, Alex Keegan, and a great grandson, Ryder Sousa Brownell.
A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rte. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Dr., Cumberland. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling hours Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
