Jeane L. Underwood
PAWTUCKET - Underwood, Jeane L. (Westervelt), 57 peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was beloved wife of Allan J. Underwood. Born in North Kingstown, she was the daughter of the late Lucille (Couture) Westervelt of Exeter, RI and the late Henry "Hank" Westervelt of Sparks, NV.
A graduate of North Kingstown High School; Jeanne attended The University of Rhode Island with a double major in Math and Engineering. She graduated from the Hall Institute program in Computer Assisted Drafting. She was employed as a data technician for the US Postal Service in Providence for 29 years before retiring in 2014. She lived in West Warwick before moving to Pawtucket in 2007.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her precious daughter, Alicia J. Underwood-Moore of Philadelphia, PA. She was the twin sister of her "womb-mate" Jeannine Westervelt-Stevenson of Shawnee, OK and sister of Gerard and Anne Marie Westervelt both of Exeter, RI and the late George Westervelt.
Ever fearless and outspoken in her approach to life, Jeanne was willing to try anything a least once. Even as a child she resisted being confined by conventional roles, choosing toy guns over dolls. She was always able to find the humor in any situation and could have the room laughing with her stories and mimicry. Her colorful personalty was reflected in her personal fashion sense. She was an excellent seamstress and many of her most memorable outfits were her own creations. She loved dancing and music and always wanted to be on the go. She loved her family unconditionally. When her brave struggle with cancer had worn her out, she continued to fight on out of concern for those she was leaving behind. Our lives will be sadder and quieter without her.
Her funeral will be held, Friday, March 14, 2014 at 8:15am from the TUCKER-QUINN Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave. (Rt.44) Greenville, RI, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Teresa Church, 358 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, RI. Visitation Thursday 5-8pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeanne's memory to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 will be appreciated.
