Janice L. Hutchinson
EAST PROVIDENCE- Hutchinson, Janice L. (Read) passed away January 16, 2014 surrounded by her loving family at her home in Rumford where she had lived for 63 years. She follows her husband, Al, who passed away in 2010.
They were an inseparable team since their marriage in 1943. Jan was born September 28, 1922 in Pawtucket, the daughter of Franklin D. and Mildred L. (Ludgate) Read.
She is survived by her daughter, Meredith, and her husband Amos McLamb, her son, Alan, and his wife Terri Hutchinson, her son, Russell, and his wife Deborah Hutchinson, grandchildren Josh, Becki and her husband Paul, Jon, Ben, Abby and her husband, Nick, and Sam, and great grandchildren Alexandria, Savannah, William, Reid, and Lincoln. She is also survived by her sister, Carol, and her husband William Berndt; former sister-in-law Beryl Swiatkowski, and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara and her husband, David Smith, and a brother, Franklin Read.
Her family, friends, home, and church were the centers of Jan's world. Her special warmth and caring way made all she touched that much better. She was a member of St Michael and All Angels church for 63 years, and a 40 year member of the church's Altar Guild. She cherished the friendships she made there.
Jan was a 1940 graduate of Pawtucket High School. She was co-owner / Secretary-Treasurer of the A. E. Hutchinson Insurance Agency in Pawtucket. In recent years, she was also a member of the Rhode Island Strummers, a Senior Citizens Ukelele band.
On her behalf, the family sends deepest thanks to all those special caregivers, neighbors, and friends who helped so much through her final years.
There will be a graveside committal at 10:15 AM Tuesday, January 21, at Swan Point Cemetery. There will then be a Memorial Service in the Swan Point Cemetery Chapel at 11:00AM following the committal.
