James V. Murphy
LINCOLN- Murphy, James V. 79, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully Monday March 5th, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy T (Grimley) Murphy. They were happily married for more than 52 years.
Born in Providence RI, he was the son of the late James V. and Jane P. (ONeil) Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was a lifelong resident of the Cumberland Lincoln area. He graduated St. Raphael Academy in 1950. He served honorably in the US Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. He then attended and received a degree from Bryant College.
Mr. Murphy worked at the Valley Gas Company for 32 years. He volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club for many years and is a member of their Hall of Fame. He was also an avid golfer.
Besides his wife he is survived by his three sons, Michael J. Murphy and his wife Katrina of Fort Worth Texas, Kevin J. Murphy of Lincoln, and James V. Murphy III and his wife Dina of Cumberland; a sister Jean Catanzaro of Greenville; five grandchildren Jack, Allison, Jacob, Samantha and Shea. He was the brother of the late Paul Murphy, Joann (Nancy) Coyne.
A Mass of Christian will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Ambrose Church, 191 School Street, Albion, RI 02802. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Thursday 4-7 p.m. In the Bellows-Falso Funeral Chapel, 160 River Road Lincoln, RI 02865. In lieu of flowers donation may be made in his memory to Boys and Girls Club of Cumberland, P.O. Box 7505 Cumberland, RI 02864.
Burial will be private.
