James J. Folan
PAWTUCKET - James J. Folan, Sergeant Pawtucket Police Department, retired, died on March 15, 2014. He was the loving husband of Catherine E. (Gibbons) Folan. They had been married 67 years.
Sgt. Folan was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late William and Anabelle (McLaughlin) Folan. He was a police officer for the City of Pawtucket for over 37 years, earning the rank of Sergeant. Prior to his police work Sgt. Folan was a WWII Veteran of the United States Navy. After the war he graduated from the New England Institute of Applied and Sciences where he received his embalming license. Sgt. Folan was the President of the Pawtucket F.O.P. in 1961.
He loved time spent with his boys as he volunteered as a coach for the Darlington American Little League, the Fairlawn Football Cardinals and the Pawtucket Crusaders.
Besides his wife Catherine, Sgt. Folan is survived by his sons; Francis W. Folan, and his wife Carol, of Pawtucket, Michael P. Folan, and his wife Peggy, of New Hampshire and Thomas J. Folan, and his wife Kristine, of Gorham, Maine. He also leaves a brother Richard Folan of Pawtucket, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Sgt. Folan was the father of the late James J. Folan Jr.
The funeral for Sgt. Folan will be Thursday at 9:00 am from the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Teresa's Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket at 10:00 am. His burial will be with full Military Honors in Mt. St. Mary's Cemetery, Pawtucket.
