PAWTUCKET- Irene A. Walas 93, passed away Tuesday May 1, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Home & Hospice Care Center of Rhode Island. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter A. Walas.
Born in Pawtucket she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Veronica (Koczwanski) Bozek. She was a life long resident of Pawtucket
During WWII she was employed in a Defense Plant, General Cable and received a Certificate from U.R.I. for Management and Quality Control. She was a Supervisor in the Inspection Dept. until the termination of the War Contract.
In 1969 she worked in the Pawtucket City Clerks Office four years. She was also a Secretary for several years in the Pawtucket Municipal Employees Credit Union but stayed on the Board of Directors until her retirement in January of 1983. Irene transferred to the Pawtucket Fire Dept. as the first female Fire Civilian Secretary in the Pawtucket Fire Dept. In January 1973 and Supervised One Clerk until retiring.
She was a member of the former Orchard Lake Schools Ladies Auxiliary, Chapter XXI, and the former St. Josephs Church of Central Falls Seniors. She served fourteen years as the Sunshine Chair Person and was also on the Planning Board. She was also a member of St. Teresas Seniors of Pawtucket. She was a Seamstress and an avid Bowler and Gardener.
Mrs. Walas leaves her loving son William S. Walas and his wife Sheila of Pawtucket, three devoted grandchildren, 2 cherished great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the Walter L. Walas and the sister of the late Alexandria Puchalski and Eugene Bozek.
Her funeral will be held Friday May 4, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. from the Karol A. Romenski & Sons Funeral Home 342 High Street Central Falls with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Teresa of the Child Jesus Church 358 Newport Avenue Pawtucket at 10:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend. CALLING HOURS FRIDAY FROM 8:30 AM TO 9:30 AM. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket.
