PAWTUCKET- Irene (Laurinda) Furtado, 83, of Meadow St., Pawtucket, RI died on Tuesday, March 11th at the Miriam Hospital. She was the wife of the late Jose Jacinto Furtado.
Irene was born in Castro Verde, Alentejo, Portugal, a daughter of the late Manuel Laurinda and Mariana Barbara Martins Laurinda.
Mrs. Furtado arrived in Rhode Island in 1963 with her husband. She worked as a laborer in many textile factories, lastly employed by Greenhalgh Mills in Pawtucket. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and was a devout parishioner of St. Teresa's Church.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth and son-in-law Charles. She also leaves her two brothers and two sisters, all living in Portugal as well as several nieces and nephews both in the United States and Portugal.
The funeral for Mrs. Furtado will be on Monday, March 17th at 9:00 AM from the MANNING HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Teresa's Church, 358 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket at 10:00 AM.
