PAWTUCKET - Hermengarda (Pereira) daSilva, age 95, passed away at home June 26, 2011. She was the wife of the late Inacio Pinto daSilva.
Born in Castendo, Portugal, daughter of the late Antonio and Iva Pereira, she immigrated to the United States as a young teenager settling in the Valley Falls section of Cumberland. Upon marriage in 1939, she moved to Pawtucket where she lived the rest of her life. She worked as a seamstress for 27 years at the Healthtex Co., Central Falls. After her retirement she was a lunchroom aide and supervisor for twelve years at the Varieur Elementary School in Pawtucket. She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church, Pawtucket, where she was active in the former Holy Rosary Sodality and the church choir.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Gonsalves of Vernon, CT, and Iva daSilva with whom she resided; four grandchildren and their spouses; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother Manuel Pereira, a son-in-law Antonio Gonsalves, and a great-granddaughter.
Her funeral will begin Thursday morning at 8:45am from the REBELLO FUNERAL HOME, 901 Broadway, East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Anthony's Church, Lawn Ave., Pawtucket. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland. Calling hours will be Wednesday, 4-8pm.
