Gordon C. Rattray
BROOKFIELD - Gordon C. Rattray, Jr., 90 of Brookfield, died Thursday, February 24, 2011. He is predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Winifred (Harker)Rattray in 2007 and his son, Dana D. Rattray in 1969. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Surette, with whom he lived; grand-daughters Amy Beaupre of Lillian, AL and Rebecca Johnson of Jaffrey, NH; 6 great-grandchildren, and a brother and 3 sisters; Donald Rattray, Doris Gagne, Betty Brandenshaw and Jean Sharkey all of Rhode Island. His sister Catherine and brothers William, Robert and Norman Rattray predeceased him.
He was born June 29, 1920 in Pawtucket, RI, the son of Gordon C. and Lena (Poole) Rattray and graduated from Pawtucket High School. He was a Sergeant in the US Army during WWII and participated in the second invasion of Normandy. Gordon was an industrial engineer, first at the former Whitin Machine Works, then at Wyman Gordon in Grafton until his retirement in 1983. He lived many years in Whitinsville where he coached Little League and played softball. After moving to Brookfield, he served as treasurer and on the Board of Directors for the Nanatomqua Mobile Home Park. He was an avid baseball fan and loved playing cards and pool. He was a member of the Blackstone Valley United Methodist Church. His funeral will be held Wednesday, March 2 at 10:30 AM at the Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 1 from 5-7pm at the funeral home.
