Friars' Henton earns BE Rookie of the Week honor for second straight week

PROVIDENCE - It was announced Monday that Providence College men's basketball
freshman forward LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Mich.) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the
Week for the second consecutive week. Henton leads the Friars in rebounding (8.5
rpg) and ranks fourth on the squad in scoring (13.7 ppg). He ranks in the top two
in the BIG EAST in scoring amongst rookies and leads all freshman in the league in
Last week, Henton helped pace the Friars to three wins as he averaged 17.7 points,
9.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in a 3-0 week. Henton shot 51.2 percent (22-43) from
the field. In the Friars' 80-49 win over Brown on December 5, Henton scored 19
points and grabbed nine rebounds. In the team's 64-57 victory over ACC foe Boston
College on December 8, he registered a career-high 21 points and added seven
rebounds. In the squad's 72-61 win over Bryant on December 10, Henton added his
second double-double of the season with 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. He
also recorded a career-high five blocks for the Friars.
On December 5, Henton was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for his performance in
the Friars' victories over Holy Cross (82-77) at home on November 29, and South
Carolina (76-67) in Columbia, S.C. on December 1. Against Holy Cross Henton scored
17 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out two assists. In South Carolina, he
scored what was a career-high 18 points to go along with eight rebounds and two
assists. For the week, Henton averaged 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per
