Frederick N. Gariepy
PAWTUCKET - Frederick N. Gariepy, 84, of Daggett Avenue passed away peacefully Monday at home. He was the husband of Rita (Blanchette) Gariepy with whom he had celebrated 63 years of marriage on November 22nd. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Frederick A. and Margaret (Farley) Gariepy.
Mr. Gariepy was a 1944 graduate of Saint Raphael's Academy and served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a Pawtucket Firefighter for 27 years before retiring as Lieutenant in 1977. He then worked at Texas Instruments as a Sheet Metal Mechanic from 1977-1998. He was also a member of the DAV, a communicant of the Saint Cecelia Church and belonged to St. Teresa's Seniors Bowling League. Fred took great pride in his vegetable gardens. He created beautiful stained glass art and handmade furniture that will be treasured by his family for generations. He also enjoyed cross country skiing and traveling, particularly to US Navy reunions across the US. Besides his wife he is survived by a sister Mary O'Malley of Pawtucket; four sons, Richard Gariepy and his wife LaDonna of New Hampshire, James Gariepy and his companion Kiet Ly of California, Robert Gariepy and his wife Mary Jane of Virginia and Michael Gariepy and his wife Catherine of Oregon; three daughters, Diane Dingley and her husband Mark of North Kingstown, Carol Varin and her husband Ronald of Maine and Gail Girouard and her husband Paul of Attleboro; sixteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 8am from the COSTIGAN-O'NEILL Funeral Home, 220 Cottage Street, Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9am in Saint Cecelia Church, Central Avenue, Pawtucket. Burial with Military Honors will follow in RI Veteran's Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Friday 4-7pm.
