PAWTUCKET â Ever since he was a young boy, Edward Kozatek has been sweet on Fox Grocery. âI used to steal my mother's soda bottles and cash them in for penny candy,â he said, chuckling. Kozatek, who owns J.T. Leddy Auto Top, is one of many city residents who are mourning the closing of the neighborhood convenience store that has been a fixture at 209 Benefit Street for decades.
Friday will be the last day for Fox Grocery, which has been run by several generations of the same family for over 60 years. Dorothy Fox said that she and her husband bought the small store from her parents, the Bergerons, some 50 years ago. The Bergerons had operated the store for 10 or 12 years before that, and prior to this, it had been St. Onge's, she said.
