Florence Juliette Beauregard Smith (WITH PHOTO)
LINCOLN - Florence Juliette Beauregard Smith, died May 31, 2011 at age 96. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jean Paul Smith in 1989. Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island in 1914, she lived fifty six years in Rhode Island and forty years in West Palm Beach, Florida. She had recently moved from West Palm Beach, Florida to Lincoln, Rhode Island.
Paul and Florence Smith married in 1936. They met in the 1930s after a vaudevillian production. She was playing saxophone in the pit orchestra and he, singing and acting on stage. Later, they would each have their own dance bands.
Florence was predeceased by her parents, Joseph S. Beauregard and Blanche M. Beauregard; sisters, Stella G. Rush and Rachel Edna Cote; brother, Normand H. Beauregard; brothers-in-law, William A. Rush and Omer Hector Cote.
Survivors include her brother Leo Lucien Beauregard; her very dear sister and best friend, Jeannette V. Chenevert; her sister, Muriel Santos; her sisters-in-law, Irene A. Beauregard and Miriam Beauregard; brother-in-law, Omer H. Chenevert; nephews and nieces, David Chenevert, Normand Beauregard, Christine Beauregard Casey, Peter Beauregard, Paul Beauregard, Mark Beauregard, John Beauregard, Mary Anne Beauregard Mazzarella, James Beauregard, Lisa Beauregard Patterson.
Her one lifelong love was music, playing her saxophone and clarinet professionally for 80 years.
In 1942, she decided to take on the challenge of war-effort production and went to work for Federal Products Corp. in Providence, Rhode Island. During World War II, she received The Army-Navy E for Excellence in War Production award for her role in using her skills to aid in the repair of an ammunitions train in Europe.
Gardening, music, and sewing were her passions in life.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday at 6:30 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home 757 Mendon Road Cumberland.
