PAWTUCKET — Pawtucket Police are investigating a pair of armed robberies that occurred about 20 minutes apart Friday night at two Family Dollar stores in the city, as well as whether there is a connection to similar crimes that have occurred locally.
Police first responded to a report of an incident at the Family Dollar at 320 Dexter Street at approximately 7:50 p.m. The clerk told police that one male dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and a ski mask entered the store, displayed a gun and demanded cash. The clerk provided the suspect with cash and the man then fled on foot in an unknown direction.
At approximately 8:10 p.m., an armed robbery was reported at the Family Dollar at 502 Broadway. Police said the suspect was described as wearing the same clothing as the suspect in the Dexter Street incident. Again, the suspect entered the store and demanded cash of the clerk. The clerk complied, and after receiving the money, the suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction.
According to police, the two cases are being investigated as being linked. These two incidents are also being investigated as being connected to the armed robbery in Pawtucket that occurred at the Dexter Street Family Dollar on Nov. 7, as well as similar crimes that have occurred recently in Pawtucket and Providence.
No injuries were reported in either crime. Unknown at this time is how much cash was taken at each store, police said.
Video from the store's surveillance cameras is being collected, but it does not appear that the suspect's identity can be ascertained, police said.. The suspect was described as being of medium height (5'9” to 5'11”) and possibly having a light complexion.
