PAWTUCKET - Ferland, Eugene Henri, 85, of Hyde Avenue, Pawtucket passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at his home. He was the husband of Mary T. (Grant) Ferland.
Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Alphage and RoseAnna (Martel) Ferland, he was a resident of Pawtucket and until recently a resident of Pompano Beach, Florida.
Eugene was a building contractor and a principal in the Alphage Ferland and Sons Construction Company, which later became the Ferland Corporation. His other business interests were G&A Associates and Craig-Central Management.
During WWII, he served in the US Navy as a Carpenter's mate aboard the USS Fox, USS Hoggatt Bay and at the Yokuska Naval base in Japan during the occupation. He was a member of St. Gabriel Parish in Pompano Beach, Florida and St. Cecilia Parish in Pawtucket. Eugene Ferland was a Commander of AMVETS Post #11, 1957-1958, President of the Kawanis Club of Pawtucket, 1964, and President of the Rhode Island Home Builders Association, 1987-1988. In his leisure time Eugene enjoyed coin collecting, stamp collecting and watching Judge Judy.
Besides his wife, Eugene leaves his family, Eugene W. Ferland and his wife Karen of Kansas City, Missouri, Robert D. Ferland of New York City, David J. Ferland and his wife Joann from Cumberland, Rhode Island, Rev. Thomas J. Ferland of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, John Peter Ferland and his wife Cathy of Sebastopol, California and Jennifer Torres and her husband Peter of East Hampton, Connecticut.
He is survived by his grandchildren, Jonathan Ferland, Laura Ferland, Kate Ferland, Nicole Ferland, Melisa Ferland, Grant Ferland, Samantha Torres and Bryan Torres. He is survived by one great grandson, Calvin Ferland. He is also survived by his brother Roland O. Ferland of Providence.
He is predeceased by his brothers Armand, Albert, Arthur, Raymond and his sister Jeannette Casavant. He is also predeceased by Louise (Boyle) Ferland, his second wife.
The funeral for Mr. Ferland will be Saturday, July 7th at 9 AM from the Manning-Heffern Funeral Home, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket, with a concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial in St. Cecilia Church, 1253 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket at 10 AM. Graveside burial with full military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
