Ernest B. Marot
PAWTUCKET - Ernest B. Marot, 82, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Rita F. (Sevigny) Marot for 62 years. A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, he was a son of the late Armand J. and Alice (Cote) Marot.
Ernie was a Faculty Chef at Providence College for 16 years before retiring in 1993, and was previously a bartender / function manager at the East Side Checker Club for 10 years and had also been employed by Swank, Inc. for over 25 years. In addition to devoting his life to family, Ernie's community service efforts were selfless. He enjoyed mentoring children and was a little league coach and scout leader. Over many years, his grassroots fundraising network raised monies for the Ladd School, CYO, Meeting Street School, and other worthy causes. After retiring from employment, Ernest fulfilled a lifelong dream of feeding the hungry by founding the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen which he ran for 16 + years with his army of volunteers. He was a Pawtucket Hall of Fame Inductee (1995); recipient of the Jefferson Award and a member of Kiwanis. Ernie leaves a legacy of helping others.
Besides his wife, he leaves 3 children, Anne-Marie Sullivan, Mark Marot and Lynda Salois; 3 siblings, Aline LeClair, Rev. Roger Marot and Lorraine Fournier; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Raymond Marot and Lorraine Riley, and the brother of the late Lucille Cheltra, Dr. George Marot, Normand Marot and Anita Tousignant.
His funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church, 755 Central Ave. Interment will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery. VISITATION will be Sunday 2 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen, 195 Walcott St., Pawtucket, RI 02860 or the ALS Association, 2915 Post Road, Warwick, RI 02886-3117 will be appreciated.
