E.P. cagers surprise La Salle

East Providence coach Alex Butler said his Townies gave him 32 minutes of great basketball on Friday night.

EAST PROVIDENCE – East Providence played a “full 32 minutes,” in the words of coach Alex Butler, en route to a 56-43 victory over Division I-North leader La Salle on Friday night.
Joe Carnevale hit five three-point field goals while scoring 23 points for the Townies, who improved to 3-5 in Division I with the win. Derek Andreoli added 10 points for the Townies.
La Salle fell to 6-2 in league play with the loss.

Tolman still rolling
PAWTUCKET – Tolman’s third straight win came with relative ease in a wire-to-wire 65-47 win over visiting Narraganset Friday night. The win improves the Tigers to 5-3 in Division II-Central, 10-3 overall.
Tolman led by 15 points at halftime before stretching it to a 30-point lead early in the second half. Rodney Bustillo scored all 14 of his points in the first eight minutes of the second half for the Tigers while Troy Sawyer came off the bench to contribute 8 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Elijah Wiggins added 10 points and 8 rebounds for Tolman, now winners of seven of its last eight.

Barrington bombs C.F.
BARRINGTON – Central Falls had no answers on Friday night as Barrington rolled to a 71-43 victory over the Warriors.
The Eagles’ Big Three of Tyler Brown, Connor Fiske and Ben Engvall combined for 54 points. Barrington went to the free throw line 32 times, making 26, while improving to 5-4 in Division II action.
Brian Collazo was the only C.F. player to reach double figures, scoring 10 points. The Warriors fell to 5-3 in D-II with the loss.

Shea crushes Chariho
PAWTUCKET – Four players hit double figures, including a game-high 24 points from Joh’lon Hazard and a 23-point, 15-rebound effort from Austin Silva, as Shea High crushed Chariho, 88-65, in a Division II crossover contest Friday night at The Cage.
Malik Moody (18 points) and Zach DePina (15 points) also had big nights offensively for the Raiders, who improved to an even 4-4 in the league and 5-6 overall.
On Tuesday, Shea plays host to West Warwick.

Lincoln whips Wessterly
LINCOLN – Lincoln staged its biggest league win of the season Friday night, knocking off division-leading Westerly in overtime, 56-54, at the Lions’ Den. With the win the Lions improve to 3-5 in Division II while the Bulldogs drop to 6-2.
A basket by Mike Akanji (18 points) and free throws from Ryan Musket (19 points) helped push the game into overtime for Lincoln. The pair once again came through in the extra session as Lions held on for the two-point win.
