Earle C. Lewis
RIVERSIDE - Earle C. Lewis, age 93, of Riverside Terrace, passed away on January 1, 2013 at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island.
Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada he moved to the United States in 1949. Earle was a Sergeant in the Canadian army, serving in WWII in the European Theater. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythisius in New Glasgow. He was preceded in death by his parents B. A. Lewis and Ethel (Hardy) Lewis, 16 siblings and his wife of 50 years, Isabel S. (Grant) Lewis.
He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church for many years where he served on multiple committees. Earle was always ready to help others-he never met a stranger. He served as District Commissioner for the Boy Scouts in Blackstone Valley and Institutional Representative for Cub Scouts in Central Falls. He had been employed in many trade areas, retiring after operating his own painting/wallpaper business.
Earle is survived by his daughter, Judith C. Williams and her husband Wayne of Braselton, GA; a son Terence G. Lewis, Sr. and his wife Eleanor C. Lewis of Mattapoisett, MA; and his current wife Louise Stamp whom he married last year. Also surviving Earle are four grandchildren-Glenn Williams, Nathan Williams, Bonnie Johnson and Dr. T. Grant Lewis, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 4th at the Merrick R. Williams Funeral Home, 530 Smithfield Avenue Pawtucket, RI. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow after the service in Moshassuck Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MADD or charity of your choice.
