E. Warren Newell
LINCOLN - E. Warren Newell, a life-long resident of the Prospect Hill neighborhood of Lincoln, passed away on Tuesday, May 6 at the age of 84. He was the husband of 60 years to his beloved wife Shirley Newell. Warren was the son of the late Elisha A. Newell and L. Irma King Newell of Lincoln and, the brother of Irma H. Newell Remington of Dunnellon, FL and the late Kenneth Newell of Tampa, FL.
Warren graduated from Tolman High School and served in the Korean War as a truck driver attached to the 101st Airborne Division. Best known for his trademark key rings, Slim worked as a machinist for Hindley Manufacturing until his retirement in 1995.
Warren loved to travel, driving throughout the United States several times over the course of his lifetime. He loved to walk through the woods of New Hampshire and locally on the Blackstone Valley Bike Path. He loved family gatherings, fishing, canoing, and camping. Warren was a Pawtucket Red Sox season ticket holder for several years. He enjoyed all of the Rhode Island favorites - Newport Creamery cabinets, Eclipse Coffee Syrup, Del's Lemonade, Dunkin Donuts, Gisele's Restaurant formerly in Lonsdale, and Aunt Carrie's.
Warren is survived by his children: Thomas Newell of Cumberland; Robert and Lori Newell of Salley, SC; Linda and Ray Boulet of Lincoln; John Newell of Lincoln; and Barbara and Kevin Plante of Cumberland. He is also survived by his grandchildren -Matthew Boulet and Amy Boulet of Lincoln; Robert Newell and Christopher Newell of Salley, SC; Amanda VanPelt of N. Smithfield; Michaela Plante of Cumberland - his great-granddaughter, Aislinn Pelletier Boulet of Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at the Lincoln Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 13 from 4:00 8:00 pm. A private funeral will be held at the Newell Burial Ground.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association, RI Chapter or Home & Hospice Care of RI.
