CUMBERLAND - Dr. Georgios Triantafilos Eystathiades, 84, formerly of Barrows Street, Cumberland, died Wednesday at the Berkshire Place Health and Rehabilitation Center, Providence. He is the husband of Rose (Marchi) Stathe aka Stathes.
Born in Nigrita Thessaloniki Greece, he was the son of the late Triantafilos and Polixeni (Sotiras) Eystathiades. He came to the US in 1955 and settled in Providence. He moved to Pawtucket in 2003.
Dr. Georgios was a philanthropist. He was a prominent general surgeon for humanitarian reasons only in third world countries. He was an Officer in the Korean War, and an avid collector of stamps and coins.
He was the best man for George and Rose Foussekis and godfather of their son Leonidas, whom he adored, their daughter Litsa he loved them all as his family.
Survivors besides his wife Rose of Pawtucket, he leaves one brother and one sister in Greece.
His funeral will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. from the LACHAPELLE FUNERAL HOME, 643 Main Street, Pawtucket with a funeral service in The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Greek Orthodox Church, Walcott Street, Pawtucket at 11:00 a.m. His life will be celebrated with calling hours Sunday from 5:00 8:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
