Doris L. Slavin
LINCOLN - Doris L. (Sherman) Slavin, 96, formerly of Lincoln, died Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Lydia Taft House, Uxbridge, MA. She was the wife of the late D. Howard Slavin.
Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late S. Eber and Jennie P. (Hammond) Sherman, she had lived in Lincoln for over 50 years. She was a direct descendant of seven families, including John Alden, which came over on the Mayflower.
Mrs. Slavin was employed by the City of Pawtucket and the Town of Lincoln as a teacher. In Pawtucket, she taught at Fairlawn School for 12 years, and, in Lincoln, she taught at Lonsdale School for 17 years. After retiring, she volunteered at Lonsdale School and Lincoln Public Library.
She was a graduate of Rhode Island College of Education, and was a member of the Blackstone Valley Historical Society and the Blackstone Valley Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Pawtucket.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth S. "Betsy" Brown and her husband, Raymond of Uxbridge, MA. She was the mother of the late John Sherman Slavin.
Her funeral will be held THURSDAY, MARCH 6 at 9:45 A.M. from BELLOWS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 160 River Road, Lincoln with a Requiem Eucharist at 11 A.M. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 50 Park Place, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Mount St. Mary's Cemetery, Pawtucket.
