Donald R. Farrell
CUMBERLAND - Donald R. Farrell, 82, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. He was the husband of Bertha (Pellerin) Farrell, and they had been married for over 56 years.
Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late John Sousa and Ethel (Farrell) Sousa. He was a life-long Cumberland resident.
He was a United States Army, Korean War Veteran. He received the Korean War citation, three Bronze Stars, Occupational Medal of Japan, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Mr. Farrell was employed as painter for the International Painters Union, Local195, and later was employed by Rhode Island Hospital until his retirement in 1996.
Don was an avid golfer, he also loved to play cards and Bingo. He was an active member of the Cumberland Senior Center. He was also a member of the VFW Gatchell Post 306, Pawtucket.
Besides his beloved wife, Don leaves his three sons, Theodore W. Farrell, and his wife Maureen of Westerly, Raymond D. Farrell and his wife Beverly of Cumberland, and Charles J. Farrell of Cumberland; one sister, Theresa Moniz of St. Miguel, Portugal; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Dolores Joy Sousa, Arnold Sousa and John Sousa.
A celebration of his life will be held Monday with a prayer service at 10 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Burial with military honors will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery.
Visiting Hours will be held Sunday from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
