October 17, 2010

CUMBERLAND -- Cumberland High tuned up for next Friday’s showdown game against unbeaten Johnston with a 7-0 non-league victory over Toll Gate on Friday night at Tucker Field.
The Clippers got the game’s only score in the second quarter when Ben Elliott broke free on a 20-yard touchdown run. Chad Bacon booted the extra point and Cumberland took a 7-0 lead into halftime.
The Clippers’ defense stood tall throughout the game.
“Toll Gate didn’t really have a scoring threat,” Cumberland coach Chris Skurka said.
Linebacker John Kane led the effort with 10 tackles. End Alex Szymanski came up with seven tackles.
Cumberland is now 3-3 overall and remains 2-2 in Division II-A heading into next Friday’s road game against the 3-0 Johnston Panthers.
