CUMBERLAND – The chairman of the Cumberland Fire District’s Board of Trustees Monday said the district will recover most of the money that was allegedly embezzled by the district’s former treasurer-collector Karen B. Lambert.
The money will come in the form of an $83,000 insurance payout, reimbursement for roughly the same amount of money allegedly stolen by Lambert who was arrested last week, says James Leonard.
“We will be reimbursed at least $83,000 from the insurance company,” says Leonard, adding the district has not only hired a new bookkeeper, it has instituted safeguards to prevent or at least detect fraud going forward.
