Council gives first nod to Apex plan

PAWTUCKET — After a lengthy and sometimes contentious process, the City Council gave first passage on Wednesday to a revised zoning plan for the Apex property that is being hailed as a compromise.
Following the submission of a revised ordinance, the City Council on Wednesday approved a newly created zone that will pertain only to the parcel of land that runs from 33 to 46 to 100 Main Street and 10 School Street. The overlay zone, called the Riverfront Commons District or RCD will allow property owner Andrew Gates to have more leeway on store size as he develops the eight-acre site, while still including the city's Riverfront Commission and Planning Commission in the review process.
