PAWTUCKET - Melchert, Claire L., 84, of Burns Manor in Pawtucket died on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Mt. St. Ritas Health Center, Cumberland. She was the wife of the late Adolph Melchert. Claire was born in Groton, CT, the daughter of the late Camille and Rosedelima (Lemay) Benoit.
Mrs. Melchert worked as a long distance telephone operator in Oakland, CA in the 1950s, for the City of Pawtucket Bicentennial Office in the 1970s and in the Pawtucket School department in the 1980s. She was a past President of the Burns Manor Association from 1996-2004 and also belonged to VFW Gatchel Post #306. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends in Burns Manor, working at the election polls and was a dedicated Red Sox fan.
Claire is survived by her children, Carol Alex and her husband Bill from Gig Harbor, WA, Linda Koehnke and her husband Mark of Attleboro, MA, Jack Melchert and his wife Joanne of Somerset, MA, Jill Lavigne and her partner Moe Parent of Pawtucket and Carol Radley and her husband Gordon of Attleboro, MA, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, her sisters Louise Abate of Pawtucket, Belva Grimley of South Attleboro, MA, Lois Rachiele of North Providence and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her son Gary Melchert and her daughter Deborah Weiby.
The funeral for Mrs. Melchert will be Wednesday, March 13 at 9:00 am from the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Family Parish, St. Josephs Church, Walcott Street, Pawtucket at 10:00 am. Her burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery in Cranston. Her calling hours will be Tuesday, from 4-7 pm in the Funeral Home.
