PAWTUCKET — A red-tailed hawk that appeared to be sick or injured took up a lengthy perch on a shrub outside the Klibanoff Eye Associates office on Exchange Street on Monday. A passerby and a staffer at The Times called the Pawtucket Animal Control Department out of concern for the bird, and Animal Control, in turn, notified the state Department of Environmental Management. Animal Control Director John Holmes said that DEM workers captured the bird and examined it. Although no injuries were found on the hawk, which looked to be about a year old, it appeared to be malnourished so DEM placed it in a rehabilitation facility.
