October 8, 2011

PROVIDENCE – Providence police continue to search for suspects in the shooting death of Derek M. Taylor, 34, of Pawtucket.
Officers stated Taylor had been driving his van near Miriam Hospital when it suddenly crashed early Friday morning. He later died of a gunshot wound, and police are investigating the death as a homicide. A cousin of Taylor's, Rishaun Taylor, told a local media outlet that he had been shot in the head.
Another cousin residing in Providence, Juan Hazard, stated to the same reporters that he and the victim had spent most of Thursday together, and that he had dropped him off at his home at 9:05 p.m., Thursday so he could spend time with friends.
Hazard also revealed that Taylor's dad, Buster Doggett, had been killed at nearly the same age Taylor was – and in the same manner, a gunshot wound. He went on to mention Taylor's son, Derek Taylor, 16, is now the same age as the victim was when his father had died.
Taylor lived in Pawtucket with his girlfriend, Maria Gamboa, 35, and her two children.
