PAWTUCKET – An accurate weather service forecast, a parking ban and a “no school” call helped the city’s Department of Public Works to get a good handle on Wednesday’s snowstorm.
By mid-morning, most of Pawtucket’s roads were very passable and by lunchtime, many were down to the pavement, as temperatures warmed up and the snow tapered off.
Norman Lamoureux, operations manager for DPW, said the storm did just what the weather service had predicted this time: generate about an inch and a half of snow each hour from about 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. and then change to drizzle. “Having the parking ban in place and school called off enabled us to really get the plows out there early and do the job. We’re in really good shape,” he said.
