PAWTUCKET - Christo Gannites, 80,of Pawtucket, passed away on December 17, 2012. He was born in Pawtucket, the son of the late Nicholas and Athena (Eledos) Gannites who were originally from Greece. He was the husband of the late Bertha (Ryan) Gannites who passed away in 1992.
After serving his country in the Army during the Korean War, he worked for 30 years for the Pawtucket Fire Department as a mechanic before retiring in 1994.
Christo was an Honorary Life Member of Pawtucket Lodge #920 of the Tri City Elks Lodge #14 and also a Life Member of the D.A.V. and a member of American Legion Post #14.
He is survived by a brother George of Lincoln, a niece Ruth of Bellingham, MA and his longtime friend, Estelle Cayer of Pawtucket. He is predeceased by his brothers Theodore and Andrew.
The funeral service for Mr. Gannites will be Saturday, December 22nd at 9:00 am in the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 97 Walcott Street, Pawtucket. Burial with full Military Honors will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. The calling hours for Mr. Gannites will be Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the MANNING-HEFFERN FUNERAL HOME, 68 Broadway, Pawtucket. Relatives and friends are invited.
