Charles O. Black
THE VILLAGES, FL - Charles O. Black, 78, of English Ivy Circle and formerly of Cumberland, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at home. He was the beloved husband of Dorothea "Dot" (Hodgkinson) Black. Mr. and Mrs. Black were married for 55 years.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Stanley T. and Marion (Richardson) Black, he had lived in Cumberland for 30 years, Lincoln for 3 years, Sandwich, MA for 3 years before moving to Ft. Myers, FL in April, 1995. He has lived at The Villages, FL for the past 5 years.
Mr. Black was a 1952 graduate of Providence Country Day School and a 1955 graduate of Babson College. He was a U.S. Army veteran during peacetime, having served in Vicenza, Italy.
Mr. Black was Vice President of the former Pawtucket Savings & Trust for 23 years. He later worked as an investigator for the RI Attorney General's Office under Arlene Violet for 1 years and was the Properties Officer for East Providence Credit Union for 5 years when he retired in 1992.
He was a member of the Cape Cod Museum of Natural Life; a member and volunteer of the Heritage Plantation and the Thornton Burgess Society, both of Sandwich, MA; a member of the Cape Cod Ski Club; a member of the former Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce; a member of the RI Bankers Association; a Blackstone Valley Committee member of the Boy Scouts of America; a past board member of the Pawtucket YMCA; and a member of the RI Fraud Investigators Association. He was also the co-author of the Stitt-Black Report of DEPCO.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Charles O. Black, Jr. of Southborough, MA, Steven H. Black of Darien, CT and Stanley T. Black of Northborough, MA; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Deborah Walker and Rodman R. Black.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service in Arnold Mills United Methodist Church, 690 Nate Whipple Highway, Cumberland, FRIDAY, MARCH 16 at 11 A.M. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Black's memory to Cornerstone Hospice & Palliative Care, Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL 32161 would be appreciated.
