Ceremony pays Victory Day tribute

August 11, 2014

PAWTUCKET — Thanks to the continued dedication of a group of area veterans and their devoted supporters, Pawtucket once again hosted the annua Victory Day memorial event on Monday at the Veterans Amphitheatre, adjacent to the City Hall complex, with numerous speakers praising the sacrifices made by veterans to preserve the nation’s freedom.

Victory Day signaled the end to the War in the Pacific that concluded World War II.

“Today we remember that it was those sacrifices, and so many more like them, that allow us to stand here on a summer’s day in solemn remembrance, or take a ride to the park or indeed anywhere we want to go, just as we please,” said Dylan Zelazo, city director of constituent services and communications, representing Mayor Donald R. Grebien, who was unable to attend. “Those sacrifices must never be forgotten.”
