CENTRAL FALLS — For Luis Munoz of Cumberland, Sunday was a special day for Colombians that should also be celebrated with members of the Colombian-American community.
“We are going to celebrate our independence day,” Munoz said as he and his wife, Andriana, and their daughter, Ashley, headed into the Colombian American Cultural Festival at the Higgins Avenue Recreational Complex on Sunday.
“Today is Colombia’s 204th Independence Day,” he said.
A crowd of nearly 2,000 had filled the complex for the day’s celebration after following a parade of floats and traditional dancers down a parade route from Dexter Street. The celebration at the complex included a stage where the Colombian band Aires Del Folklor could be heard playing, and an assortment of food and craft booths where participants could savor a traditional Colombian dish or buy a Colombian-made hat to ward off the sun.
