Washington Times State Department correspondent Nicholas Kralev and photojournalist Astrid Riecken spent three weeks in Eastern Europe last month reporting a series of stories on developments since the fall of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago. Both brought unique personal perspectives to the assignment: Mr. Kralev was born and raised in Bulgaria and Ms. Riecken is of German origin.
