In a royal shootout that will be talked about for years to come, the St. Raphael Academy football posted an edge-of-your-seats 56-50 overtime victory over Johnston High in their Division II quarterfinal-round game on Saturday night in Johnston.
This game featured nearly 1,000 yards of offense, a wonderful game by SRA quarterback Trevor Vasey, who tossed a career-high five touchdown passes, and a strong defensive standout by the Saints in overtime.
Charles Correa won the game on the Saints' lone play of OT with a 10-yard run, and Ricardo Pognon ran wild for a career-high 147 yards on a dozen carries.
This game took nearly three hours to complete, but no one leaving the Panthers' field (regardless of what team they were pulling for) was complaining. This was arguably one of the most exciting games featuring a local team in recent memory.
