PAWTUCKET - Beatrice Carter Minkins, 100, of Glenwood Avenue passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center, Providence. A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, she was the 8th daughter of the late John Carter and Rosa L. (Jessup) Minkins.
Bea was the 8th daughter born in the Minkins family but only five lived, and all were females who attended Pawtucket Schools. Four of the five girls went on to graduate from Brown University: They were Imogene Clark, Rosa J. Minkins, Carolyn Stanley and Beatrice Minkins while Georgiana Williamson pursued business employment. Beatrice was a 1936 graduate of Pembroke College, now Brown University.
While in and out of college, Rosa, Carolyn and Beatrice participated regularly in sports and traveled throughout Europe and Asia after graduation.
Bea worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and afterwards joined the Employment Service where she worked for 37 years. Her principle work was with the "WIN Program" (Work Incentive Program) designed to reduce the number of clients in the Welfare Agency by providing training for mothers and care for their children which was the responsibility of the Welfare Agency, a partner in the Program.
She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Pawtucket and was a member of the former Church of the Advent, Pawtucket where she served as Clerk of the Vestry and as a member of the Altar Guild.
Her only survivor is a nephew, Wayne Minkins Stanley of Santa Rosa, CA.
Her Requiem Eucharist will be held SATURDAY, JANUARY 11 at 10 A.M. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 490 Broadway, Pawtucket. Burial will be in North Burial Ground, Providence.
