Avelino A. Lopes
PAWTUCKET - Avelino A. Lopes, 79 died on Saturday (May 14) after a brief illness. He was the husband of Lucille (Gevry) Lopes. Born in Pawtucket and a lifelong resident of the city, he was the son of the late Joaquim and Virginia (Costa) Lopes.
He was the Vice President of Vinyl Packaging and Plastic Development. During the Korean War, he served in the US Army attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Portuguese Social Club and of the Uniao Portuguesa Beneficente, both of Pawtucket. He was an avid bowler and gardener.
Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters: Kristie Ripepi and husband Bruce of Hawthorne, NJ, Cindy Ventura and husband John of Barrington and Valerie Briden and husband David of Rumford and one son: Anthony Lopes of Pawtucket; seven grandchildren: Jacqueline Bellach, Diana Ripepi, Stephanie and Michael Ventura and Shannon, Hope, and Tess Briden and a great-granddaughter, Ana Marie Lopes; two sisters: Alice Fernandes and Zulmira Goyette and many nieces and nephews and cousins. He was the brother of the late Lucinda Almeida and Joseph Lopes.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 AM from the DARLINGTON MORTUARY OF L. HEROUX & SON, 1042 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Mary Church, 103 Pine Street, Pawtucket, RI 02862. Calling hours in the funeral home will be on Wednesday (May 18) from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial will be in Mt. St. Mary Cemetery, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers, donations to Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island would be appreciated.
