Andrew M. Mikula
CUMBERLAND - Andrew "Matt" M. Mikula, 88, of Maybury Street, passed away Wednesday at the Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of the late Leona (Nawrocki) Mikula.
Born in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Maciej and Maryann(Cyran) Mikula. He was a life-long resident of Cumberland.
He was a United States Navy, World War II Veteran serving during the invasions at Saipan, Peleliu, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa.
Mr. Mikula was a Employment and Training Coordinator for the Town of Cumberland for 20 years until his retirement in 1990. He was previously the Assistant Engineer for the Northrup Corporation for 15 years.
Matt was a communicant of the St. Aidan Church, a member of the Cumberland Senior Center, American Legion, Post 14, the former Israel Couture Post VFW, and a member of the Polish Heritage Committee. Mr. Mikula and his late brothers founded the former Mendon A.C.
He leaves his niece, Maureen Dowd of Massachusetts. He was the brother of the late Helen Lebida, Albert, Peter, John, Frank, Edward, Edwin, and Theodore Mikula.
A celebration of his life will be held Monday at 11 AM with a prayer service in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Burial with military honors will follow at RI Veteran Cemetery, Exeter. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting Hours will be held Monday from 9-11 AM.
