Alice A. Heroux
CENTRAL FALLS - Alice A. (Benoit) Heroux, 96 of Henry Street, Central Falls, died Friday, January 6, 2012 at Saint Antoine Residence. She was the beloved wife of the late Laurier P. Heroux. They were married 29 years.
Born in Central Falls, a daughter of the late Albert and Laura (Dumaine) Benoit. Alice began her life's work as a volunteer and part-time employee for the city of Central falls. Her career spanned forty-nine years, twenty four years as the first woman registrar of the Board of Canvassers. She acquired a reputation as one of the most knowledgeable observers of the city's political scene. Her predictions of election winners were never published, but reporters say she was rarely, if ever wrong.
She was a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church, a member of the Les Dames de Ste. Anne and was a graduate of the former Notre Dame High School. She was a member and trustee of senior citizens clubs. Growing up, her home was frequented by friends, neighbors, relatives, whoever had a love of outdoor ice skating. She was an accomplished figure skater, as was her father. She lived in the same home her entire life.
She is survived by her sons: Leo and his wife Marie of North Smithfield, Richard and his wife Terry of Cumberland and Roger and his wife Charmaine of Hollywood, Florida; also six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Maurice Benoit and the late Del, Emile, George and Leo Benoit.
The funeral service will be held on Monday at 9:00 AM from the DARLINGTON MORTUARY OF L. HEROUX & SON, 1042 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Aidan's Church, 1460 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visiting hours are Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00PM.
