PAWTUCKET — Dr. Jerry Fingerut quoted Walt Disney: “All your dreams come true if you have the courage to pursue them,” and U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse called it a day where a lot of people were “shiny with smiles.” They and a host of other state and local dignitaries were talking happily about the debut of the new Blackstone Valley Community Health Care Center at 39 East Ave.
A ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony was held on Monday morning at the 32,000 square-foot, $6.7 million facility. Gov. Lincoln Chafee, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, U.S. Rep. David Cicilline, Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts, and Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien, were among those who spoke at the event about the importance of the new health center to those living in Pawtucket, Central Falls and surrounding communities.
Those involved say that the completion of the health center gives patients of Blackstone Valley Community Health Care (BVCHC) access to more doctors, faster service and comprehensive care. The new complex is said to be the culmination of BVCHC's efforts to create a “patient-centered model of care that provides multi-disciplinary delivery in one location.”
The three-story health center is the result of “ten years of planning, $6.7 million in financing and decades of dreaming,” noted BVCHC Executive Director Raymond J. Lavoie.
