Upper Deck Post 86/14 notches second straight win at Northeast Regionals

BRISTOL, CT -- Upper Deck Post 86/14 is on a roll.

The Rhode Island champions defeated host team Bristol, CT, 4-2, in the second round of the Northeast Regional American Legion tournament in front of a paid crowd of 315 at Muzzy Field Thursday evening.

BRISTOL, Conn. – If Ryan O’Neill had any concern prior to hurling in Upper Deck Post 86/14’s opener of the Northeast Regional American Legion Tournament on Wednesday afternoon, it didn’t come from a case of nerves.

“The fact we hadn’t seen them (that is, Maine state champion Bangor Comrades) all season, that’s what bothered me, if anything,” he said. “Three was no familiarity there because we hadn’t faced them.”

BOSTON – The Boston Red Sox on Sunday placed right-handed pitcher Rick Porcello on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to July 30) with a right triceps strain.

Replacing him in the rotation will be left-hander Henry Owens, who will be called up from Pawtucket to make his Major League debut on Tuesday in Yankee Stadium in New York.

Owens will be pitching on six days’ rest coming off a start for the PawSox last Wednesday against Norfolk.

WEST WARWICK – Minutes after the ceremony officially declaring Upper Deck Post 86/14 of Cumberland/Lincoln the R.I. American Legion Senior Division's newest champion, shortstop Tyler Calabro admitted he really couldn't comprehend what it meant to him.

“We made it all the way to the finals in high school, but then lost (two games to one) to Hendricken,” the recent Cumberland High graduate stated, referring to the state Division I tourney title set at McCoy Stadium this past spring. “We played really well, but didn't get it done.

PAWTUCKET  –  Moments after recording the final out, those representing the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket RBI Junior Division (13-15) squad sprinted to the mound and piled onto Jordan Perdomo, who had just tossed a 4-1 masterpiece over Paterson, N.J. in the championship game of the RBI Northeast Regional Baseball Tournament held Monday morning inside McCoy Stadium.

The reason for the massive celebration: With the victory, Pawtucket earned a berth in the RBI World Series, slated for Grapevine and Southlake, Tex. between Aug. 10-15.

Little League Baseball | Lincoln beats Cranston Western in state winner's bracket final

WARWICK – The Lincoln Little League All-Stars topped Cranston Western, 7-2, on Sunday night at Warwick Continental Field in the winner's bracket final of the Rhode Island major division tournament.

With the win, Lincoln moves on to the two-game state championship series, slated for Wednesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of Cranston Western and Portsmouth.

Lincoln needs to win one of the two games to capture the state championship.
