Pro Football Playoff Previews and Predictions

January 5, 2015

Next Week’s Matchups:

Dallas @ Green Bay

What to watch for:

Dallas will travel to Green Bay to face Aaron Rodgers and their dynamic offense. Green Bay has not lost at Lambeau Field yet this year. Dallas matches up well with Green Bay because they have a strong running game that can keep the clock running and keep the ball out of Green Bay’s hands. The weather might get the best out of Dallas as it is likely to be extremely cold. Green Bay’s offense will be looking to feast on a weak Dallas secondary.

Pick: Green Bay 31-24

Carolina @ Seattle

What to watch for:

St. Raphael hockey | PSW Co-op team takes home tourney title and donates 500 lbs of canned goods to the R.I. Community Food Bank

January 5, 2015

PAWTUCKET  –  Providence Country Day/St. Raphael/Wheeler Co-op head coach Gary Leonard set a few lofty goals for himself and his icemen prior to the first-ever Hockey Scores for Hunger Holiday Tournament last week.

First, and most obvious, he wanted to win the event’s championship. Second, he hoped to raise at least 300 pounds of canned goods for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

Nau: Wins, titles, legacy are all small stuff next to the community bond built by Steve Gordon's Cumberland wrestling program

January 3, 2015

McGair: Plenty of memorable moments defined 2014

December 31, 2014

Things have a tendency to move pretty quickly around here – almost too quickly to catch up and fully appreciate what has transpired. On a day-to-day basis, we concern ourselves with concrete items such as wins or losses, how many points a team puts up, or whether the season culminates in championship glory.

Sometimes it’s easy to overlook the small, but significant individual moments. Rest assured that it’s not our intent to paint with broad strokes.

Cumberland Wrestling | Clipper coach Steve Gordon hits massive milestone with 500th win

December 31, 2014

CUMBERLAND – For a sport like wrestling that prides itself on physicality and toughness, there sure were a lot of softer emotions like love, honor and respect on display Tuesday night at The Wellness Center when Cumberland High recorded the 500th dual-meet victory in program history, all under one man, head coach Steve Gordon.

Lincoln Wrestling | Lions primed for new challenge

December 29, 2014

LINCOLN — Head coach Mike Tuorto would be more assured of what to expect from his Lincoln High matmen this season if he had All-State phenom Alex D'Aloisio back for another go-around.
He, however, graduated last June, and is now beginning his academic/athletic career at Arizona State University.

Cumberland Girls' Basketball | Trio of sophomores help Clippers rout Burrillville at Smithfield tourney

December 29, 2014

SMITHFIELD — A trio of sophomores led Cumberland High to a 70-40 victory over Burrillville – not to mention a divisional title within the annual Rhode Island Board of Girls Basketball Officials/Smithfield Boosters Holiday Tournament – at Smithfield High’s gym on Monday night.

Julianne Ross manufactured 18 points, seven assists, five steals, while Mary Lynch contributed eight points and nine boards and Allison Ladetto seven points, seven rebounds, five assists and a steal.

Tolman Boys' Basketball | Tigers work OT to capture Holiday Classic Tournament

December 28, 2014

CUMBERLAND — It was only a holiday tournament championship game. Another non-leaguer in December. Both Woonsocket and Tolman High will have bigger fish to fry during the league seasons that begin in earnest next week. Still, the intensity and emotion displayed during Saturday night’s Holiday Classic title contest was worthy of a playoff game in March.
