RI VOTES SHOUP MACHINE

During a tour of the "Rhode Island Votes" exhbit at the RI State Archives located at 337 Wesminister Street in Providence, RI on Tuesday afternoon, November 23, 2010, this is a Shoup Lever Voting Machine which was used to vote in Rhode Island from 1936 to the 1990's, until the state went to paper ballots and optical scanners in 1998. The Shoup Machine has a panel of levers that represent the choices available to voters. To cast a vote, a voter simply pulls the lever for the candidate or issue of their choosing.

During the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen's Annual Thanksgiving Feast at St. Joseph's Church in Pawtucket, RI on Wednesday afternoon, November 24, 2010, Volunteer Kenneth LaFountaine(Pawtucket, RI) serves cranberry to a dinner plate which also includes turkey, stuffing, potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn and peas. There were two seatings, one at 12:00pm and a second one at 4:30pm which predominantly served the homeless, senior citizens and people who had been laid off, as well as other area residents in need.

At Goff Junior High School in Pawtucket, RI on Monday afternoon, November 22, 2010, left to right, seventh graders Jose Rincon, Dylan Boisclair, Taylor Collette and Jarrod Johnson, eighth grader Brandon Garcia and seventh graders Elizabeth Coen, back right, and Jordan Dineen hold several of the 2,438 total food items which were collected during the two-week annual Goff Thanksgiving Food Drive. This year's food drive collected the most items ever with "Team Champions" bringing in an astounding total of 1061 items for first place and "Team Awards" in a close second with a whopping 919 items.
