Handy, Central Falls part ways

When Central Falls boards its bus for tonight’s Injury Fund opener in Newport against Rogers, the Warriors will do so without someone who had been with them for the past two decades.
Joe Handy, who served the last 10 seasons as the Warriors’ head coach and the 10 before that as an assistant, has not returned to the helm this season.
It wasn’t because Handy didn’t want to coach anymore, nor was it because of any outside commitments with his family or his occupation.

Elderly woman's death ruled a homicide

PAWTUCKET — Following autopsy results, the death of 83-year-old Pauline E. Buco, whose body was found by a family member in her home on Saturday afternoon, has been ruled a homicide.
Pawtucket Police have been extremely tight-lipped about Buco’s death since officers were called to her single-family home at 496 Beverage Hill Ave. by a family member who acts as a caretaker. The family member told police that Buco, who lived alone, was dead inside the house.

PAWTUCKET - Frederick N. Gariepy, 84, of Daggett Avenue passed away peacefully Monday at home. He was the husband of Rita (Blanchette) Gariepy with whom he had celebrated 63 years of marriage on November 22nd. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Frederick A. and Margaret (Farley) Gariepy.

MANVILLE --- Katherine "Kitty" (Horbaychuk) Joinville, 85, of Church St. Manville, died Monday, November 29, 2010, in Landmark Medical Center, with her family by her side.
She was the wife of the late Henry L. Joinville.
Born in Woonsocket, daughter of the late Andrew and Anna ( Kiczak ) Horbaychuk.
Kitty worked for Puritan Peterson Assembly and also as a repair clerk for New England Telephone for 10 years, retiring in l981.

PAWTUCKET - Dolores M. Gregoire, 73 of Pawtucket died Tuesday at the Bethany Home in Providence. She was the wife of the late Robert A. Gregoire. Born in Pawtucket and a lifelong resident of the city, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Lillian (Cote) Ledoux. She was a communicant of St. Leo the Great Church, and very devoted to her family and friends.

Brooks leads Providence past Northeastern

PROVIDENCE — Marshon Brooks has never been accused of being shy with the basketball. Yet in order for him to complete player in the eyes of Keno Davis, the Providence College senior had to show a serious commitment to rebounding the basketball.
Brooks delivered another banner night scoring-wise, notching a season-best 27 points as PC held off visiting Northeastern, 77-72, Wednesday night before yet another sparse gathering of 4,828 at The Dunk. Just as important were the eight rebounds Brooks snatched, as he came close to matching his season average (8.7).

Born in Bellingham she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Aurore (Barrette) Marcotte. She resided in Cumberland for the past 36 years.

Born in Pawtucket, a son of Jeannette (Kishfy) Beaton of Central Falls and the late Clinton Wilson.
He was the proprietor of Russell's Construction for many years.
Besides his mother he is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Campbell, a son, Chad White, both of California, three sisters, Janet Cross, Linda Wilson both of Cumberland and Brenda Martel of Lincoln, a brother, James Beaton of Pawtucket, two granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by a daughter Linda L. Rondeau and her husband Russell of Burrillville, two grandchildren and four nieces. She was the sister of the late Robert Carr.

PAWTUCKET — In the end, Tuesday night's Division II semifinal playoff game between Tolman and St. Raphael Academy came down to a few gridiron standbys – halftime adjustments, plays that just missed connecting, and which team wanted it more.
Tolman made the necessary adjustments, St. Raphael dropped a crucial touchdown pass, and the top-seeded Tigers, who trailed 12-7 at halftime, reached deep down within themselves to outlast a courageous Saints team, 25-12, before an estimated crowd of 1,200 fans at Max Read Field.

Quakers silence Lions, 21-0, in D-III semis

PROVIDENCE — During the league season last month, Lincoln High had its way with Moses Brown and handed its Division III foe its first loss of the fall.
Let’s just say the Quakers took that defeat personal.
In the more-important rematch between the two squads — a semifinal tilt on Tuesday night — Moses Brown returned the favor with a convincing 21-0 blanking of the Lions at Brown University’s Berylson Field.

She is survived by her children, Constance Lagerstrom, Muriel Chagnon, George Ferland, and Gloria Baribault;, a sister, Doris LaRose, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Anita LeBlanc, George Normand, and Alice Morgan.

WARWICK - Edward F. Doonan, Jr., age 65, of Warwick, died on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at his family's home in Cumberland after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Adrienne J. (Longtin) Doonan.
Born in Melbourne, Florida, the son of Edward F. Doonan, Sr. of Cumberland, and the late Vivian "Ma" Doonan, he lived in Pawtucket before moving to Warwick in 1979. He attended Holy Trinity School in Central Falls, and was a graduate of Cumberland High School and New England Institute of Anatomy in Boston.

Born in Pawtucket, November 2, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Aleksander and Balbina (Kurpiewska) Osowski.
She was a former employee of First National Stores.
