Iracema A. Silva
CUMBERLAND - Iracema A. Silva, 81, of Vineyard Ave. died Wednesday in the R. I. Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late Belmiro da Silva.
Born in Feteira, Fial, Azores she was the daugther of the late Alvaro and Ameilia da Rosa. She came to this country two months after the death of her husband and had previously resided here from 1971 to 1978.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.
CUMBERLAND â€” For the first few weeks of the spring season, the courts have been empty at Tucker Field, the home of the Cumberland High boysâ€™ tennis team.
Thatâ€™s doesnâ€™t mean the Clippers havenâ€™t been practicing for their upcoming (and very challenging) campaign in Division I after a four-year absence. While work is in the process of being done to reconstruct the courts, longtime CHS head coach John Jasionowski has managed to prepare his squad by first utilizing the courts at the Abbott Run Valley Club and then over at the nearby Sher-Le-Mon Swim Club.
Richard L. Denis
WARWICK. Richard L. Denis, 56, of Post Road, passed into eternal rest on Tuesday at Philip Hulitar Center in Providence after an illness. He was the husband of Frances (LaFazia) Denis.
He was born in Pawtucket, a son of Dorothy (David) Denis-Elie of Central Falls, and the late Donat Denis.
Richard had been employed in the warehouse of the former Adams Drugs in Pawtucket for several years. He had served in the US Army for 4 years.
Ogden G. Avery
PAWTUCKET - Ogden G. Avery, of Pawtucket, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011.
Mr. Avery was born in Trenton, New Jersey, the son of the late Walter S. Avery and Ruth (Ogden) Avery. He was employed by the State of Rhode Island in the Social Security division for many years. Mr. Avery was a local talk show host and sports broadcaster at WARL, 1320 am in Providence.
He is survived by his former wife, Evelyn Tavares and many friends and acquaintances.
PAWTUCKET - Ann (Twardeck) Bryce, of Broadway, died Wednesday, March 30 at Miriam Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late David Bryce.
Born in Bentleyville, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Zemba) Twardeck. She had lived in Cumberland for fifty-five years before moving to Pawtucket over a year ago.
Mrs. Bryce was a School Librarian Aide in the Woonsocket School District. She was a member of the South Attleboro Assembly of God, and a member of its Women's Group.
PROVIDENCE â€” The indoor track season officially concluded with a â€śClassical Winter finaleâ€™â€™ weight throw competition at the PCTA facility Monday night.
Central Falls senior Aleide Fernandes, the state indoor champion in the 20-pound weight, won the girlsâ€™ event with a throw of 52 feet, 3 1/4 inches.
The Warriors had three other throwers place among the top 10. Kadi Johnson was second at 48-6 1/4, Nicole Johnson finished fourth at 42-3 1/4 and Jenn Cabral was eighth overall at 37-1.
PAWTUCKET â€” The Pawtucket Red Sox have announced that every PawSox player will wear a patch with the name BEN on their right uniform sleeve this season in honor of late PawSox owner Ben Mondor who passed away last Oct. 3.
The patch will be worn on each home uniform and will measure 5.5 inches long by 3.25 inches high.
â€śBen always wore his love of the PawSox on his sleeve so itâ€™s only fitting that we carry Ben on our sleeve for the 2011 season,â€ť said PawSox president Mike Tamburro.
PAWTUCKET â€” A city man apparently stabbed his wife to death inside their Charlton Avenue house on Monday and then took his own life inside a relativeâ€™s garage later that day, Pawtucket Police said.
According to Major Arthur Martins, the body of the victim, Maria Almeida Turmel, was found by her adopted son inside the kitchen of her house at 63 Charlton Ave. at around 3 p.m. The 32-year-old mother of three had been stabbed several times.
Francis A. Facha
PROVIDENCE: Francis A. Facha 67, passed away March 28, 2011.
He was the son of the late Antonio V. Facha and Lillian M. Facha.
Francis was a Fisherman for over 40 years.
Florence C. St. Jacques
PAWTUCKET - Florence St. Jacques, 96 of Pawtucket died on Monday at the Heritage Hills Nursing Center in Smithfield. She was the wife of the late Henry V. St. Jacques. Born in Central Falls, a daughter of the late Joseph and Clemina (St. Onge) Goffette, she was a lifelong resident of Pawtucket, and a homemaker. She was a pianist who at one time had her own band and played the piano to entertain in nursing homes until well into her 80's.
Eleanor F. Masse
CUMBERLAND - Eleanor F.(Vose) Masse, 82, of Pollett St., died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 in Memorial Hospital, Pawtucket. Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Ornando F. and Madeline (Slocum) Vose.
Mrs. Masse worked for the former Ann & Hope Company for over forty years. She began her career as a cashier, worked her way up in the company, and retired as the buyer and manager of office supplies.
CUMBERLAND â€“ Dan Oâ€™Brien has several memories of retired Cumberland High swim coach Bruce Calvert.
His first three years for the Clippers, Oâ€™Brien recalled a person that was not only dedicated to his craft, but a person that knew how to motivate with his unique style of dealing with student-athletes.
â€śYou could go out and drop ten seconds and he would still have something to tell you that would improve it,â€ť he said. â€śI guess some people would say that he had a negative outlook on your swim, but in a way it motivated us to try harder and drop our times more.â€ť
EAST PROVIDENCE â€” Anthony St. Angelo would love to allow his children â€” ages 12, 6 and 5 â€” outside to play after school or on the weekends, but he's afraid of the consequences.
One major fear includes the possibility of developing respiratory problems caused by the dust and/or stench emanating from the TLA-Pond View Recycling Facility, located near the banks of Rumford's Omega Pond.

CUMBERLAND - Vivian I. (Hutchinson) Ryan, 85, of Lantern Lane, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, March 27, 2011.
She was the beloved wife of the late Honorable Harvey J. Ryan, Esq., a former practicing attorney and Pawtucket Probate Court Judge.
PAWTUCKET - Anna Pacholec 98, of Raymond Avenue passed away Sunday March 27, 2011 at Chestnut Terrace in East Providence. She was the beloved wife of the late Matthew J. Pacholec.
Born in Cumberland a daughter of the late Jan and Karolina (Wach) Kapinos. She lived in Pawtucket most of her life.
Before retiring she was employed at the former Healtx-Tex Manufacturing Co. as an Inspector for many years. She was a member of the former Senior Citizens Group of St. Joseph's Church.
PAWTUCKET - Rosemary "Bud" McDermott died Friday, March 25, 2011 peacefully at home surrounded by her family after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late John E. Oâ€™Neil Jr. and Rosemary (McCann) Oâ€™Neil. She was the wife of fifty two years to John J. McDermott.
Mrs. McDermott was a cum laude graduate of Bryant University with a degree in Business Education.
PAWTUCKET - Eliseu Silveira, 82, of Pawtucket died Thursday at Oak Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
