LINCOLN- Martin, Michael J., 52, of Lincoln, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Isabel Barbeitos Martin.
Born in Central Falls, he was the son of Bernard R. Martin (Eleanor) and Joan (Ferland) Martin (John Syman).

Lucille M. Humes

EAST PROVIDENCE- Lucille M. (Messier) Humes, 79, formerly of Rumford, passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2012. She was the former wife of the late George R. Humes.
Born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late Arthur J. and Rose O. (Lague) Messier, she resided in the Rumford section of East Providence most of her life.
Lucille was employed in the Recreation Department of the East Providence City Hall for ten years until retiring.

House unveils 2013 budget

PROVIDENCE – A House Finance Committee meeting to unveil the General Assembly’s 2013 budget was delayed by about four hours Thursday due to last-minute wrangling about what would be in and out of the final document.
There was good news and bad news for hard pressed cities and towns in the budget, which will be debated and voted on by the full House of Representatives next Thursday.
Central Falls will receive a $2.6 million allocation to ease some of the harsher provisions of the city’s plan to emerge from bankruptcy.

NORTH PROVIDENCE — Fresh off of a 1-0 win in the 12th inning of its playoff opener against Middletown, No. 8 seeded Cumberland continued its impressive playoff run with a 6-2 upset win over No. 1 seeded North Providence on Thursday afternoon.
The Cougars had won the previous two meetings between these two teams -- 4-2 at home and 6-2 at Cumberland -- but the Clippers got the win when it mattered most, in the playoffs.

CUMBERLAND - Aurelia R. "Cookie" Bousquet, 87, died Tuesday at Grandview Center. She was the wife of the late Joseph E. Bousquet.
Born in Central Falls, she was a daughter of the late John H. and Rosalie (Dumais) Clang.
Cookie had been employed as a brass bobbin winder for the former Central Lace Co. She later worked for American Textile and B &D Yarn Co. until her retirement in 1977.

Four shot in Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET — Pawtucket Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting of four local people who were outside of a house on John Street late Tuesday night.
According to Major Arthur Martins, police responded at around 11:40 p.m. to 48 John St. in response to a shooting. Officers arrived and found four individuals who had been struck by bullets.
The victims were identified as Silvana Urbina, 37, of 48 John St.; Andre Gilbert, 18, of 48 John St.; Germaine Bruce, 18, of 230 East St.; and Davhon Shelton, 18, of 138 Woodbine St.

Firefighter's sexual assault trial ends in hung jury

PAWTUCKET — After nine hours of deliberations on Monday, a jury came back as deadlocked in the trial of a Pawtucket firefighter accused of having sex with a juvenile teenage girl.
The defendant, 40-year-old Cody Reed of Second Street, has been charged with two counts of third-degree sexual assault on a minor, according to Amy Kempe, public information officer for the Office of the Attorney General. Reed has been accused of sexual assault on a person over the age of 14 but under16.

PAWTUCKET: Ellen Hemond Sherlock Feldhacker passed away peacefully on May 27th 2012 at the Phlip Hulitar Hospice Center.
She is survived by her loving mother Virgina Theoharis Hemond and the late great, Joseph F Hemond. She leaves behind her 2 children Scott Michael Sherlock and Ginny Jo Lester and was the beloved grandmother of Brett Michael Sherlock.
She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and friend.
Her passions in life were gardening and cooking and was very proud of her Greek heritage. She had a deep religious belief in God.

PAWTUCKET - Virginia R. Finan, Formerly of Pawtucket passed away on Tuesday May 29, 2012. Mrs. Finan was the wife of the late Leo Finan.
She was born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late Ferruccio and Angelica (Benedetti) Taddei. Mrs. Finan was a dietary aid at the Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket for many years. She was a member of the Salvation Army Home League.

PAWTUCKET - Dell Olivia Attoh, 26, of Pawtucket, RI passed away on May 17, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital. She graduated from Shea High School and was studying finance at Johnson and Wales University.
Dell is survived by her parents, Comfort Moore and Laude Attoh; her sisters Rachelle Haney, Edie, Trista, and Irma Attoh, her brothers Lincoln Ward and Laude Attoh Jr, her nieces Ranya Haney, Gabriell Leon, and Leyeti Ward, and many other relatives and friends.

McKee: Town must recommit to education

CUMBERLAND — Saying the stakes could not be higher, Mayor Daniel J. McKee has called on the Town Council and the community to recommit to investing in public education, saying restoring Cumberland as a top ranked school district is about much more than budget dollars.
“This is not only an educational journey we're talking about here, it's also a political and economic journey and that's where the Town Council, mayor's office and community are going to have to get engaged,” McKee told the council at last week's public hearing on his proposed $82.8 town operating budget for fiscal 2013.

Born in Pawtucket, a son of James A. and Yemi Rua.
He was the proprietor of Area 4zero1 and had also been employed by Footlocker for many years. Chach was an avid soccer player. He and his store was well known as the provider of the most stylish fashions in his community.

CUMBERLAND - Maria A. (Ferreira) Bento, 89, formerly of Vineyard Avenue, passed away Monday in the Pawtucket Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Pawtucket. She was the wife of the late Fernando Bento.
Born in Figueiro da Serra, Gouveia, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Abel and Maria (Ferreira) Cardoso She moved to this country in 1967, settling in Pawtucket, and later residing in Cumberland for 32 years.
Mrs. Bento was employed as a Machine Operator for the Rhode Island Textile Company for many years until her retirement.

LINCOLN - HARRISON, Margaret E. (Gormley), 94, of Lower River Road, passed away Sunday in the Friendly Home, Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late John E. Harrison.
Born in Norwich, CT, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Quinn) Gormley. She resided in Lincoln for many years, previously residing in North Providence and Burrillville.
Margaret was a graduate of the Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, CT, and a graduate of the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Providence.

PAWTUCKET - Barbara Ethier, 78, of Pawtucket, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012. She was the wife of Robert Ethier.
Born in Central Falls, she was the daughter of the late William and Anna (Kianka) Rogers. She had lived most of her life in Pawtucket.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Lori Moreau, and Holly Walker, five sons, Kim, Marc, Scott, Robert, and Jason Ethier, a step-daughter, Roberta Berry, two step brothers, Sonny and Robert Decesare, 17 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Jose do Albuqueque Amaral

CUMBERLAND - Jose do Albuqueque Amaral, 97 of Promontory Knoll, passed away peacefully Friday May 25, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Rosa C. (Ferreira) Amaral for 65 years.
Born in Esmolfe, Portugal, he immigrated to this country in 1950, settling in Cumberland. He was responsible for bringing his two brothers, sister and their families to the United States.
Mr. Amaral was employed as Carpenter for the Standard Nut and Bolt, for 35 years retiring in 1990.
He was a communicant of the Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.
