Carl Crawford to rehab with PawSox beginning Thursday night

PAWTUCKET – The Boston Red Sox will send OF Carl Crawford to Pawtucket for an injury rehab assignment beginning Thursday night when the PawSox host the Buffalo Bisons at 7:05 pm at McCoy Stadium.

CRANSTON - George A. Bishop, Jr., 63, of Lillian Lane died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at home. He was the husband of Rosemary (Antico) Bishop.
Born in Pawtucket, he was a son of Ann M. (Goyette) Bishop of Pawtucket and the late George A. Bishop, Sr, who died on July 2nd. Mr. Bishop had lived in Merrimack, NH for 15 years and Apex, NC for 3 years before moving to Cranston this past February.
Mr. Bishop was a senior software engineer for Fidelity Investments in Merrimack, NH for 10 years and Durham, NC for 4 years. He was a graduate of Tolman High School and Blake Computer Institute.

Bernard M. Milone

PAWTUCKET - Bernard M. Milone, 86, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012. The son of the late Emanuele M. and Bernadette (Lantagne) Milone, he resided in Pawtucket most of his life.
Mr. Milone was a World War II Army Veteran and a member of the DAV. He served in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns and was awarded the Purple Heart; Combat Infantry Badge and the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with two Bronze Stars.

PAWTUCKET - Moreau, Catherine ("Kay") M. a lifelong resident of Pawtucket, Rhode Island died July 10, 2012 at The Philip Hulitar Center, Providence, RI. She was the widow of Leonard J. Moreau.
Born in Pawtucket, she was the daughter of the late Edward F. and Catherine (Lynsky) O' Donnnell.

Think tank says RI should scrap health care exchange

Two weeks after the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision upholding the Obamacare health reforms, a conservative think tank says Rhode Island should scrap the heath care exchange it is building to implement the new law and opt out of the Medicaid expansion program that the law calls for but that the high court ruled is voluntary for states.

Police make arrest in fatal shooting

PAWTUCKET (AP) — Pawtucket police have made one arrest and are looking for a second suspect in the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man outside a local elementary school.
Eighteen-year-old Givanni Lima was arraigned Monday on a conspiracy charge. Police say the Tolman High School senior drove 19-year-old Darrell Johnson away from the scene after Johnson shot Joshua Burgo in the chest Friday.
Burgo was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital.

PAWTUCKET - Edward J. Nason, 54, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012.
Born in Providence, he was a son of Carolyn M. (Finnegan) Moul, Ronald "Pa" J. Moul and Paul R. Nason. Eddie worked for the Pawtucket Water Supply Board before retiring several years ago. He enjoyed fishing and cooking and he loved dogs.

Marcel R. Hetu

WOONSOCKET - Marcel R. Hetu 80, of 547 Clinton St. died Monday at Oakland Grove Health Care Center. He was the husband of the late Lucille (Lambert) Hetu.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Alfred and Lila (Beaudoin) Hetu. Marcel was a Machinist for EG & G Sealol Co. for over fifteen years. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and served in the Third Infantry Division from 1952-1954. Marcel was an avid Yankees fan.

PAWTUCKET — Sunday marked the first time Bob Montgomery saw Ryan Lavarnway up close and in person. Studying the Pawtucket Red Sox catcher from the television booth in the press box located high above McCoy Stadium, Montgomery made good use of the monitor adjacent to him, particularly when tracking Lavarnway’s mitt motion as he received the ball from the pitcher.

Blue Cross may no longer do business with Landmark

WOONSOCKET — Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island has mailed 198,000 letters to customers in the Greater Woonsocket area notifying them that the insurance company may no longer do business with Landmark Medical Center and the Rehab Hospital of Rhode Island as of Aug. 1 and Sept. 1, respectively.
That means BCBSRI’s members could still receive treatment at those hospitals, but they would be responsible for dealing directly with Blue Cross for claims reimbursement and paying the hospital out of their own pocket.

PAWTUCKET - Jeannette J. Rochford, of Lowell Avenue, Pawtucket died July 8, 2012.
Mrs. Rochford was born in Pawtucket the daughter of the late Gilbert and Robertine (Gauthier) Arundale.
Mrs. Rochford is survived by her sons, Thomas Rochford and Alfred Rochford and her daughters Karen Rochford, Barbara Clermont and Michelle Duncan. She also leaves a sister Theresa Marques and ten grandchildren.

PAWTUCKET - Mary Silva, 88, of Duncan Avenue, Providence and formerly of Florida and Pawtucket passed away Sunday, July 8, 2012 surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Silva was born in Fall River MA, the daughter of the late Marcelino Carvalho and Erminia Souza. She was employed at Joyal Van Dale for over seventeen years before she retired.
Mrs. Silva is survived by her daughter Doreen Laughlin of Providence, her grandsons, Richard and Preston Laughlin, her great grandsons Isaac, Daeshaun, Malik Laughlin and her great granddaughter Vinyah Laughlin.

LINCOLN - James L. Bullock, 53, of Lincoln, died Sunday at home. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Donald H. Bullock Sr. and Jean (Lussier) Bullock.
He is survived by his sister Lynn M. Iannelli and her husband Kenneth, brothers Donald H. Bullock Jr. and his wife Susanne, Bruce B. Bullock and his wife Diane, nieces Melissa Goding, Bethany Ellis and Jessica Bullock, nephews Eric Paul, and Andre Henault. He was the loving uncle of many great nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was the brother of the late Paul Rounds.

Born in Valley Falls, he was a son of the late William R. and Mary (Campbell) Batty,
Mr. Batty was a Vice-President of Manufacturing for Standard Nut & Bolt Co.

PAWTUCKET - Couto, Manuel M., 74, of Rhode Island Avenue, Pawtucket, passed away peacefully at Rhode Island Hospital on Friday, July 6, 2012. He was the loving husband of Maria P. Couto.
Mr. Couto was born in St. Miguel, Azores, the son of the late Antonio and Clementina (Medeiros) Couto. He retired after working more than 20 years at American Insulated Wire.
Beside his wife, Manuel leaves his son, Tony P. Couto of East Providence and his daughter, Sandra P. Couto of Pawtucket.

Suspect sought in murder

PAWTUCKET — Police have obtained a warrant for the arrest of Darrell Johnson, 19, in connection with the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Joshua Burgo behind the Nathanael Greene Elementary School Friday morning.
Police said the victim was shot in the chest at around 2:58 a.m. He was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

20-year-old city man fatally shot

PAWTUCKET — A Pawtucket man was fatally shot early Friday morning behind the Nathanael Greene Elementary School on Smithfield Avenue, police said.
Police said the victim, identified yesterday as 20-year-old Joshua Burgo of Pawtucket, was shot in the chest at around 2:58 a.m. He was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
According to police reports, Burgo was found lying in the parking lot in back of the 285 Smithfield Avenue school with a gunshot wound to the chest.

His Nos. 4, 5 and 7 hitters finished 10-for-10 with nine RBI and eight runs scored as CALL rolled to a wildly-entertaining 12-6 victory over Bernon’s best in a R.I. District IV Major Division Tournament Pool B tilt at Ayotte Field on Friday night.
