Alexi Flores, Warriors vex Clippers in 2-1 win

CENTRAL FALLS – After a scoreless initial half, senior quin-captain Alexi Flores scored two tantalizing tallies – the last with only three minutes left in regulation – to lift Central Falls High to a 2-1 Division I conquest of pesky Cumberland at Macomber Stadium on Friday night.
 
Flores curled in a feed from fellow captain Moises Blanco about 10 minutes into the final session, but the talented Yordano DaSilva evened up the match on a pass from Denser Martinez.
 

Tolman puts hurt on Chariho with ground game, defense in 21-0 rout

PAWTUCKET – Tolman High is once again starting to throw its weight, and speed, around in Division II. After a brief hiatus in Division I, the Tigers are back where they belong, showing off their explosive offense and smothering defense on a weekly basis.

Sauveur reflects on successful tenure as PawSox pitching coach

PAWTUCKET – Despite being twice their age, Rich Sauveur has a lot in common with the numerous Triple-A pitchers who were entrusted to his care during his successful seven-year run as pitching coach for the Pawtucket Red Sox.

The 50-year-old hoped – make that yearned – for a job at the big-league level.

Whitaker a whirlwind as Tolman takes down Johnston, 35-12

PAWTUCKET – Tyreal Whitaker and his Tolman High teammates had plenty of speed to burn on Friday night.
 
The definition of a one-person wrecking crew, Whitaker piled up four touchdowns as Tolman blew past Johnston, 35-12, in the Division II-B opener for both schools at Max Read Field. Whitaker rushed for three scores and also passed for one. 
 

Dorbor, Saints' D slam door on Raiders, 14-6

PAWTUCKET – In a battle of two hard-hitting Division II squads, St. Raphael Academy landed the last punch and trotted off the Pariseau Field gridiron with a 14-6 victory over Shea High on Friday night.
 
Alfred Dorbor scored both touchdowns for the Saints on short runs. The senior running back also had the game’s biggest play, a 52-yard rumble on a fake punt midway through the first quarter that set up the Saints’ only touchdown in the first half.

Mendes, Mitsmenn score to lead St. Raphael Academy girls past Davies Tech, 2-0

LINCOLN – Despite his squad’s ability to outshoot Davies Tech by an 8-3 count over the first 40 minutes, St. Raphael Academy hadn’t scored.
 
That’s why veteran mentor Michael Ross Drake assembled his troops at the break and indicated – via whiteboard and black ink – how to pick it up a notch in the final stanza.

PAWTUCKET — Veteran St. Raphael Academy chief Mike Sassi is always so forthcoming as to how a new season will unfold, but admitted this one will be extra special, not to mention memorable.
 
Instead of playing the primary role of offensive coordinator – as well as overseeing every other aspect of the team – he will turn his focus to defense.

Job well done: PawSox manager to spend time on Boston's coaching staff

 PAWTUCKET – The time-honored tradition of seeing the manager of the Pawtucket Red Sox receive a “job well done” seal of approval in the form of a September call-up to Boston remains alive and well.

Kevin Boles is the latest to receive such a commendation following a transaction-driven Triple-A season that culminated with the PawSox’s capture of the Governors’ Cup.

PawSox to celebrate 2014 Governors' Cup title tomorrow at McCoy Stadium

PAWTUCKET -- PawSox fans are invited to a Victory Celebration at McCoy Stadium tomorrow (Wednesday), September 17 at 12:30 pm to honor the 2014 Governors' Cup Champion Pawtucket Red Sox.

The team is scheduled to arrive back at McCoy via bus from T.F. Green Airport at approximately 12:45 pm. Several players, manager Kevin Boles, coaches, front office executives, mascots Paws and Sox, and many local dignitaries from the City of Pawtucket and the State of Rhode Island will be on hand to celebrate the PawSox championship season.

PAWSOX play tonight for AAA Championship!

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The PawSox will meet the Omaha Storm Chasers tonight in a one-game, winner-take-all game for the Triple-A National Championship. 

The game begins at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NBCSN (Cox Cable Channel 93) and on 920 AM (WHJJ).

Starting for the PawSox is Edwin Escobar.

PawSox are Governors' Cup champs!

DURHAM, N.C. -- For the second time in three years, the Pawtucket Red Sox are Governors’ Cup champions.
 
The Sox earned a 4-1 victory Saturday night to take the deciding Game 5 of a razor-close championship series against Durham, at Durham Bulls Athletic Park. It marked the Pawtucket's fourth International League championship in franchise history.

Shea’s speed burns Lincoln in 41-21 Friday night romp

PAWTUCKET – Shea High still owns the kind of speed that can turn a game around in a heartbeat.
 
The Raiders got an 80-yard kickoff return from Momodou Mbye to start the second half on Friday night. Mbye's burst broke open a close game against Lincoln, which trailed by just eight points at intermission. The Raiders then piled it on, rolling to a 41-21 in the Division II opener for both sides.

PawSox' rally falls short in Game 3 loss of Governors' Cup finals

DURHAM, N.C.  –  After dropping a heartbreaking, 4-3, 11-inning loss at McCoy Stadium late Wednesday night, the Pawtucket Red Sox were hell-bent on evening the score against the Durham Bulls in the third game of the best-of-five Governors' Cup finals set 24 hours later.

New St. Raphael athletic director Tanguay eager to get going

PAWTUCKET – Inside Ray Tanguay’s office – located a jump shot away from the basketball court inside St. Raphael’s Alumni Hall – is a textbook example of an athletic director who emphasizes staying ahead of the curve.

Hanging on one of the walls are several dry erase boards that contain the schedules for all SRA fall sports teams at the varsity and junior varsity level. If there’s a postponement, all Tanguay needs to do is wipe and write the rescheduled date in its new slot.
