February 4, 2013

PAWTUCKET — The finished product had to be something that embodied the 2012 Governors’ Cup title the Pawtucket Red Sox won.
After discussing the anatomy of a championship ring – a glittery reminder of what was achieved – with PawSox general manager Lou Schwechheimer, it became clear why so much time and energy was put into coming up with the perfect keepsake. Johnston hands SRA girls hoop team first Div. II loss

February 4, 2013

PAWTUCKET — After watching his team handily win its first nine Division II games of the season by double figures, seven by more than 17 points, St. Raphael Academy head coach Fred Saunders got what he longed to see on Monday night – a competitive, down-to-the-wire duel against a formidable opponent.

Tolman baseball team to play Newtown High at McCoy Stadium

February 4, 2013

PAWTUCKET — The heartfelt initiative of Tolman High baseball coach Theo Murray coupled with the open-arms approach of PawSox president Mike Tamburro has helped lay the groundwork for a special event scheduled for Saturday, April 20 at McCoy Stadium.
A high school baseball game will take place that day with first pitch set for 11:30 a.m. This non-league, seven-inning affair will produce a winner and a defeated party, but the outcome will be a footnote in a symphony composed in fellowship, compassion and healing.

SRA's basketball playoff fate hanging by a thread after loss to Hendricken at the buzzer

February 4, 2013

PAWTUCKET – St. Raphael was confronted with a harsh reality following Saturday’s 55-52 buzzer-beating loss to Bishop Hendricken.
Not only do the Saints have to win out, but they also find themselves in the uncomfortable position of having to rely on other teams in hopes of cracking the Division I tournament. Bids are extended to the top 10 finishers. At the moment, SRA’s 5-10 mark is good for 11th best, meaning hope was not completely lost when Hendricken’s Kazre Cummings came down and nailed a 3-pointer on the left wing as time expired.
